● Shay Boloor recently shared that Nvidia ($NVDA) is delivering more than 260,000 AI chips to Samsung, Hyundai, and SK Group. This government-backed deal is meant to fast-track South Korea's AI ambitions, making it one of Asia's most aggressive players in AI infrastructure.
● Under the agreement, Nvidia will provide its latest Blackwell processors across South Korea's tech sector. Samsung is building a major AI computing facility and plans to integrate its HBM4 memory tech for better performance. Hyundai will use the chips for manufacturing automation and self-driving systems, while SK Group is developing an AI-powered industrial cloud.
● But the deal isn't without risks. Supply chain issues, soaring energy needs, and potential monopolization by these big conglomerates could limit broader access to AI resources. There's als concern that leaning heavily on imported GPUs might leave South Korea exposed to trade restrictions down the line.
● Still, this multibillion-dollar push could cement South Korea as a serious AI manufacturing and cloud hub—competing with Japan, Taiwan, and the U.S. While the country works on homegrown AI chips, Nvidia's Blackwell tech is still the performance king, making this partnership a smart near-term move.
